Hey everyone! Today, I want to talk about the Seaside Park Boardwalk. I am devastated by the pictures that I saw of the Boardwalk after it was engulfed by the massive fire. I was just there a few days ago eating Kohr's Ice Cream and Maruca's Pizza and now everything is gone. First, it was Hurricane Sandy and now this massive fire. I can't believe it.
For me, summer would not be complete without a trip to the Seaside Park Boardwalk. I have so many great memories of going down the shore with my cousins. I will never forget the arcade, the good food, and the rides.
I spent so many summers on the Funtown Pier. My favorite arcade on the boardwalk was The Royal Arcade. I was in there for hours as a kid, playing the horse race, pop-a-ball, and the slots. I remember saving all of my points to get silly prizes like eyeball rings. I still have those somewhere. The arcade changed when I got older and was owned by different people, but the sign for The Royal Arcade was still on the outside of the building. I also loved to play the wheels to try to win Swedish Fish for my Grandma and some CD's when it only cost 50 cents. When the Red Hot Chili Peppers came out with "Under the Bridge," I won the single on the boardwalk. It is still one of my all-time favorite songs. I remember riding the log flume as a kid, even though I was terrified to go on it. My other favorite rides were the motorcycles, the carousel, and the bumper boats. Finally, my favorite places to eat were Maruca's Pizza, Kupper's Fries and Kohr's Ice Cream. Kohr's has been there since the 1920's and I can't believe it won't be there anymore.
I can go on and on about these great memories, but I don't want the post to get too long. My heart goes out to the people in the Seaside Park community. I can't even imagine what they have gone through this year with losing their homes and now their businesses. I am so grateful to have those memories, and I am sure that in the years to come the Seaside Park Boardwalk will be even better than before.
What are your favorite childhood memories?
