FOMO
FOMO is the acronym for the fear of missing out. To give you an example, pretend that all your friends are at an Eminem concert and they are posting pictures on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Seeing the pictures on social media will make you fear that you are missing out on having fun with your friends even if you don't really like Eminem's music. FOMO can relate to a wide range of things. I am going through this right now. You can see what everyone else is doing on social media at all times. People post pictures of their kids, going out with their boyfriend, and going on amazing vacations, and seeing those pictures can make you feel like your experiences are less valuable. You may say yes to things that you don't want to do and no to things we want to do because you are worried about the things that others think are important. Every single person in the world is not going to experience every single thing there is to experience. I am starting to believe that if you are not focusing on what other people are doing at all times you will appreciate what you are experiencing in the present moment a lot more. Tell me what you fear that you are missing out on in the comments.

DeleteHI Amanda !! Such a great idea...and thanks for opening up an interesting line of thinking. Social Media can be somewhat hard to watch and disillusioning at times for me as well. My new work responsibilities have put a halt to my weeknight fun I was involved with this past 6 months. I have to keep the focus on what's important, and remember, no one can live my life for me...or pay my bills for that matter, so onward I forge. I have to say no to some things that are just not possible, and watching others have fun, while I feel like I am the only one struggling is also a disillusion. We all struggle in our own way, and what I pray for each day, is that we can help each other, even in some small way, find the inspiration to keep moving and growing and loving. You have done that for me with this blog, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. See you in dance class soon !!
ReplyDeleteHello! I am glad that my blog post has inspired you. It does help to know that you are not the only one going through struggles. Keep doing what you are doing and it will all be worth it in the end. I think another thing that has helped me is knowing that while I might not be able to experience things that other people are experiencing now, there will come a time when I will be able to experience those things. Sometimes I wish that we all had the ability to be in multiple places at once lol. Thank you for reading and I will see you in class! :)
