Today, I went down the shore for the last time this year. Can't believe summer is over already! I have to go to a beach where they have beach wheelchairs to rent because it makes it a lot easier for me to get on the beach. The chairs have big rubber wheels to make it easier to navigate the sand and they are made out of PVC pipe. Usually, I ask a lifeguard to bring me down and then when the lifeguards are packing up for the day, I have to bring it back. That usually happens at 4:30-5:00.
After we got off the beach, we went to a restaurant that had indoor and dockside seating and separate menus for both. The owner said that the building is old and it is not very wheelchair accessible. The indoor seating is up a flight of stairs, but she was willing to accommodate me and serve me an item on the indoor menu if I choose. I wasn't prepared to walk up a flight of stairs because I didn't bring my braces and crutches and I had to be seated dockside. I chose items off of the dockside menu anyway, but I thought it was really interesting and very nice that she would make that accommodation. I've never had that experience before. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
